69 Studio City Nonprofits Lose Their Status
The list is eclectic enough. There’s a group that collects Colt guns, a group for edible plants and another for Icelandic horses.
There’s ballet, weightlifting, soccer, hockey, youth music, American ceramics and Armenian culture.
There’s the Deaf Communications Foundation of Studio City and Playmates Cooperative Nursery; the Inner City Youth Cultivation and the Mammoth Lakes Film Festival.
There’s Be Still and Know, Just Friends, Warm Hearts and Warm Hands and You Institute.
They’re all part of the list of non-profit organizations based in Studio City that lost their non-profit status from the Internal Revenue Service.
A half-dozen longtime local residents and community leaders looked over the list and didn’t recognize any of the organizations. Just as the IRS officials suspected, some of the organizations moved, folded or changed names without notifying the IRS.
The 69 local nonprofits were part of the 275,000 that had their tax exempt status revoked this week after they didn’t meet legal requirements to file tax forms.
Studio City Patch checked out about half of the addresses and none of them housed the named charity, some were post office boxes or mail centers and about a dozen were private homes.
One of the charities, the Summer Youth Musical, Inc. had an address listed as the Studio City Residents Association, but president Alan Dymond said he never heard of the organization.
At another address, the tenant had the address for more than a decade and never heard of the organization using his address.
Some of the places moved, like the Southern California All Welsh Society that moved to Yorba Linda, and some have websites that haven’t been updated, some have Facebook pages.
The Creativity & Magic Youth Foundation is selling its domain name, and the Desert Storm Hollywood Parade, Inc. was only around for a year (see the above video).

Riding them was a lot of fun. We walked for a while and then started to do more tolting. The tolt is trot of the Icelandic horse and it's pretty jarring. Some soreness for sure tomorrow. Roseann mentioned she felt like she was going to come off the saddle at any second, but from my vantage point, she looked like National Velvet. That's not the horse right ?
