John Deere Mini Z-Trak 717A | Tractor Review
The John Deere Mini Z-Trak 717A zero turn lawn mower is powered by a Kawasaki engine. This engine has a total volume of 0.675 liters and stays oiled thanks to a fully pressurized lubrication system. The engine transfers power to the wheels of the JD 717A lawnmower through a dual hydrostatic transmission. This means that there is no gear changing during operation. To control the speed (and direction) of the ZTrak 717A, you simply use the lap bars in front of you (there is no steering wheel). The left lap bar controls the speed of the left rear wheel while the right lap bar controls the speed of the right rear wheel.
Going forwards, the John Deere Mini Z-Trak 717A has a top speed of 14.5 kph (9 mph), while in reverse it has a top speed of 6.4 kph (4 mph). The rear wheels which power the JD 717A are quite large, each measuring 23×9.5-12 (23 inch diameter, 9.5 inch width, 12 inch rim diameter). The front wheels are much smaller as they carry far less weight.
The mower deck on the John Deere Mini Z-Trak 717A has a cutting width of 48 inches, which makes it far smaller than the likes of the John Deere Mid Z-Trak 737 and the John Deere Mid Z-Trak 757 lawnmowers, but this is understandable due to the power output of the engine. The mower deck houses 3 blades. Each of these blades has a diameter of 17 inches. The blades are belt driven. The deck simply discharges the cut grass out the side, using the protective plastic discharge flap to prevent it from flying everywhere.
