To qualify for the Dean’s List, students must earn a 3.30 G.P.A., have no incompletes, and have no grade lower than a “C” for the semester. Full-time students must carry 12 or more graded credits for the semester; part-time students must be matriculated, carrying 6-11.5 graded credits for the semester, and must have earned a cumulative total of 15 graded credits in consecutive semesters. HAMDEN — Each year it is a tradition in many high schools that the Alumni Associations of area colleges present outstanding juniors who excel in scholarship, leadership, and personal accomplishments with College Medals and Book Awards. This year at Honors Convocation, Sacred Heart Academy recognized the following outstanding juniors with College Medals and Book Awards based on the criteria of each college: • The Princeton University Book Prize was presented to Erin Hillis, daughter of Atty. Michael S. Hillis and Dr. Lynne Hillis of Derby. Each year, the Princeton University Alumni Association of Eastern Connecticut holds an essay contest for their Book Prize. This year, Erin Hillis wrote an essay about Associate Justice Sonia Sotomayor and was honored as one of 13 winners by the Alumni Association. • The Yale University Book Award was presented to Christine Smith, daughter of Dr. Brian Smith and Dr. Keiren Smith of Madison. This award is presented to a junior who exhibits a very high academic standing in a very challenging curriculum and has outstanding personal character and integrity and will be a serious candidate for a most competitive college. (The book will be presented in a ceremony at Yale in October.) HAMDEN — Graduate Katherine (Katie) Winkle, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Craig J. Winkle of Orange, was presented with the distinguished 2011 Mother Clelia Merloni Award at this year’s Sacred Heart Academy Honors Convocation. This award, named for the foundress of the Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, is given to the senior who, in the opinion of the Sisters, has consistently exemplified dedication to the charism of the foundress of the Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. As an outstanding Christian woman, recipients embody and remain true to the values that are Sacred Heart Academy. “Katie Winkle is an outstanding Christian woman – a leader who always rises to a challenge. She is the quintessential Sacred Heart Academy student, known for her dedication and commitment to the mission and core values of the Academy. Do you know who the 12 apostles are? If you were to stop right now and think, could you name them?
Surely you know Peter and Andrew, James and John, maybe Matthew, Philip and Thomas too. But do you know the rest of the 12?
The 12 apostles are important. They were the men hand-chosen by Jesus after he had prayed all night. They were the ones Jesus would invest himself in and empower to go and spread the Good News throughout the world. The 12 apostles are also the ones in Revelation21 that will have their names on the walls of the foundations of the city of the New Jerusalem (Rev. 21:14) in Heaven.
So who are they? Well they are listed 4 different times in the New Testament. You can find them listed in Matthew 10, Mark 3, Luke 6 and Acts 1:13.
Well according to Luke’s list, here are the 12 apostles (get to know them):
