You can’t bring back the past. But with some new cars these days, you can certainly try and buy it.

Volkswagen’s 1999 New Beetle started the modern retro-mobile (old-fashioned clothes over modern mechanicals) trend. Using an existing front-engine Golf chassis, it was styled to look like the rear-engine “Bug” that became a cultural icon in the 1960s, and nostalgic Baby Boomers made it a sales hit.

Over a decade after the New Beetle’s debut, there are still plenty of new retro-mobiles on sale. Here are my top 10: More: Top 10 future collector cars

2011 Chevrolet Camaro

The last Chevrolet Camaro, the 1993 to 2002 fourth-generation, stuck to the same ethos as the original 1967 model: 2+2 seating, rear-wheel-drive and lots of horsepower under the hood. But after four decades, Chevy designers had evolved the look to that of a modern jet fighter. Or at least they tried.

But the future was forsaken for the past when the fifth-generation Camaro debuted as a concept at the 2006 Detroit auto show. Instead of designing a car for the 21st century, Chevy designers took inspiration from the original Camaro, specifically the 1969 model.

2011 Chevrolet HHR

In an attempt to mimic the success of Chrysler’s 2000 PT Cruiser retro-mobile, five years later, Chevy debuted its nostalgia machine: the HHR (High Heritage Roof).

Where the tall Chrysler wagon was based on front-wheel-drive Dodge Neon mechanicals and designed to evoke memories of American cars from the 1940s, the Chevy tall wagon used a FWD Cobalt chassis, and a design inspired by the 1949 Chevrolet Suburban. It was no coincidence the HHR was penned by Bryan Nesbitt, the same designer who penned the PT Cruiser when he worked at Chrysler.

2011 Dodge Challenger

Riding the same wave of Boomer nostalgia, like the new Camaro, the new, third-generation Challenger looks back — way, back — to the early 1970s muscle car era for its retro-mobile design mojo.

Quietly forsaking the Mitsubishi-made second-generation 1978 to ’83 four-cylinder Challenger coupes, the current Dodge 2+2 two-door coupe is supposed to be the modern reincarnation of the 1970 to ’74 first-generation muscle car era models.

I was just thinking and then this came up on me . How about sending a poster along with the letter campaign. I can contribute atleast three posters. They do not have to be full size posters ..can be just A4 size pamphlets kinds. We can just print them in color printer and send them along with the letters. These posters may make it to the press also as they will be funny and spicy for news. Actually, we can send copy of our letters to press as well along with our posters. If we make about 10 such posters, we can send one random poster along with the letter. I say again, go to the cops. I understand you did wrong when you hired an illegal immigrant, paid her in cash, etc. It shows your wrong intentions. But in all honesty, that argument is mute, you are not responsible to verify someone's immigration status, I bet you can argue that with an attorney. You are dealing with a much more serious issue here. I pity the guys who suggest not to complain. Either they don�t know what their son means to them, or they have simply messed up their life prioritizing GC over every thing else. I don't support hiring an illegal nanny or getting someone from India. But what is done is past. Bigger crime here is someone hit your son. If I were you I would have made her life hell, I would have gone till any extent to make her realize what she did. I give a damn about the GC. My first priority is my child. If someone adult hits my child and I come to know about it...I am his dad for god sake. Protect your son so he can call you dad. If the motivation behind the immigration system was to benefit the immigrants, things would not be where they are today. Think about it, all these RFE's, NOID's and MTR's are the pieces of paper that generate revenue for the USCIS, the lawyers involved and the whole bureaucratic set up. Now why would a common sense solution like yours be implemented which benefits only the immigrants and stops oodles of money from coming in? The whole idea of giving people EAD's and AP's (ie the defacto rights of a green card) and forcing them to renew these documents for years instead of simply giving the green card is preposterous. The excuse given is that it is the law and changing the law is hard. Changing the law is not hard, changing the political realities of a nation entrenched in xenophobia is what is hard. You will find the eligibility list at 8 CFR Part 245, Section 1.
