Research and Markets: Power Sports Market Report: The Updated 2011 Edition

The power sports industry is one of the major segments of recreational industry, and can be categorized into four sub-segments, namely ATVs, Motorcycles, Snowmobiles, and Personal Watercrafts. An ATV or all-terrain vehicle is a vehicle that travels on low pressure tires, and is designed to handle a wide variety of terrain as compared to most other types of vehicles. In the motorcycle segment, following six types of bikes are of prime importance, cruiser, sport, touring, standard, dual purpose, and dirt bike. A snowmobile, also known as a sled, is majorly a land vehicle designed for winter travel on snow. Once developed as a utility vehicle, snowmobiles have presently become one of the major recreational vehicle. The last category in the power sports market involves personal watercraft, which refers to a small, jet powered craft ridden astraddle, for individual use in water. Although the major use of ATV has been in the recreational industry only, but it finds applications in many other industries as well, including hunting, fishing, transportation, and farm use. The US is the largest market for ATVs worldwide, followed by Canada. Together, the US and Canada, or the North America accounts for more than three-fourth of the global ATV market. On a similar basis, the snowmobile market is also concentrated in the US and Canada only. The sales of personal watercrafts in the US had been on a decline for the past few years, mainly due to the impact of global economic recession. In the motorcycle segment, the report presents the US and European heavyweight motorcycle market, along with the total motorcycle sales in the US. Power sports market as a whole is highly competitive with almost all the segments being highly consolidated. Honda has been the largest manufacturer of ATVs worldwide, followed by Polaris, Yamaha and Arctic Cat. In the snowmobile segment, presently there are only four manufacturers of snowmobiles, including Arctic Cat, Bombardier Recreational Products (BRP), Polaris and Yamaha. In the motorcycle segment, there are a number of companies operating, the major being Honda, Yamaha, Harley Davidson, and Suzuki. In the Personal Watercrafts market, the leading competitors include Bombardier Recreational Products (BRP), Kawasaki, Honda, Yamaha and Polaris. Key Topics Covered: 1. ATV death season
ATV death season

ATVs have two more wheels than Tommy's Honda did, but still, the ATV has to be the most dangerous machine ever built. To make its way over β€œall terrains,” they have big fat tires, with relatively low air pressure, which helps with the ride.

Motorcycle confessions - Honda ATV Forum

My primary vehicle is a 00' Dodge Ram 3500 quad cab long bed dual rear wheel turbo diesel with four wheel drive. My secondary vehicle is a 94' Dodge Dakota Sport short bed 4x4. My Ram averages about 18-20mpg highway. It can do a little better if I lower my speed down to 55mph. My Dakota doesn't seem to care as much until past 65mph, but below 65mpg I average 12-14mpg. So while obviously the diesel does better it still eats fuel and at $4 a gallon for diesel it isn't cheap. Currently it is a toss up for me. I have been considering either the Honda CBR250 or the Kawasaki Ninja 250r. It would appear that the Honda is more trouble free with its fuel injection but lacks top end and isn't quite as smooth at highway speeds however reports show it gets anywhere from 5-10mpg better fuel economy. The Ninja on the other hand isn't quite as smooth on the low end but makes up for it on the top. Although I've never ridden the new Honda CBR250, between the two I would have to say the Kawasaki would be a better choice for what your describing for hwy use. Having that extra cylinder and a smoother running engine makes quite a bit of difference when your droning along for awhile, and I would imagine it is a much quicker motorcycle. You really don't want something to pokey out on the hwy for safety reasons so you can accelerate and go if needed. The only other option for you for a starter bike is one like I ride myself, a 650cc single DS bike as they take to the hwy without issue, and cruise comfortably in the 75mph range. A smaller DS bike is okay for around town, and more off road use, but the heavier 650's handle the hwy's much better than the others, as they don't get blown around the road like the smaller DS bikes, and still average fuel mileage in the 50's. Cruiser bikes are fine, but I don't recommend them for new riders because of their excess weight, and poor handling compared to a smaller, lighter bike. I also recommend buying a good second hand bike first instead of a new one for a couple of reasons. You will probably want to move up to a bigger bike in a season or two, and you don't want to drop that shiny brand new bike over in the parking lot while your getting used to riding. i just took the saftey corse but cant ride yet...(only 15 yrs old and i need to be 16 to get my liscence) and the only bikes we had to ride were kawasaki Eliminators(125's) and everyone kept saying to use craigslist so i thought i would mention it...
