Monday, July 4: Neighbors are gathering for the Fourth of July fireworks in Upper Landing this year! 
The Taste of Minnesota is gone, but Saint Paul's sky will be lit up on July 4th with an aerial fireworks show beginning at 10:15 p.m.! Arrive early and stay late and take advantage of July 4th specials at bars and restaurants in Downtown Saint Paul. The fireworks will be unleashed in Upper Landing Park (along Shepard Road, "behind" the Science Museum along the Mississippi River just south of Downtown) at approximately 10:15 p.m. 

 Fridays, July 8 and 22: Minnesota Museum of American Art Presents Patio Nights @ City House
on the Upper Landing at St. Paul’s Riverfront. 7:30 - 9:30 p.m., music begins at 8 p.m.: Friday, July 8 Matthew Inkala & the Hostages; Friday, July 22: Mr. Rowles and Band. Admission is free and appropriate and encouraged for all ages. Food and drink provided by 128 Cafe. Only a short walk up the path, visit San Francisco artist Jim Campbell’s phenomenal light sculpture, Scattered Light, as it lights up at sundown each evening. Czech and Slovak Sokol Minnesota: Two dates, Sunday, July 17 and/or Tuesday July 19 History tours special for the West End
7 p.m. . All neighbors are invited to view the formal Meetingroom--even the basement!--with an introduction to the history of organizations that called the CSPS Sokol Hall home since 1879. The historical narrative illustrated with furnishings and photographs will be presented by Joe Landsberger, past president and current archivist. This summer Sokol Minnesota is continuing a restoration/renovation phase with major projects, and its Project Planning Committee is meeting with stakeholders of the building. Our neighbors/neighborhoods are critical as past partners in saving the hall in the 1970's. All are welcome! 383 Michigan www.sokolmn.org

 Dvořák Project Workshop at CSPS Hall July 27th & 28th 
7-10 p.m. Neighbors of the West End are welcome to attend two open rehearsals of a new work in progress inspired by Antonin Dvořák’s historic visit to the CSPS Sokol Hall, the West End, and the Midwest in 1893. In April playwright and director Rachel Perlmeter and composer J. Anthony Allen would love to find some musicians in the community who might like to take part in the concert performance which will be held at the Hall on October 15th at 8:00 pm- amateurs as well as experienced players are encouraged to come learn more about the project and should bring their instruments if they would like. The creative team will be pleased to share what they’re doing with anyone interested in the great maestro’s story or in glimpsing a sneak peak at how a staged radio play gets put together. Monday, Wednesday & Fridays: Young at Heart Exercise Class
9:30-10:10 a.m. Great way to get out, meet new people and do something healthy at the same time! Instructor is a certified Arthritis Foundation exercise leader. Class combines seated and standing exercises along with a short endurance routine. Cost: $8.00 per month. Come and try a class! Thursday: July 14: Medicare Counseling
10:00-12:00: Need help enrolling, reviewing or making changes to your Medicare plan? Sign up for a 45-minute one-on-one counseling sessions with Janet Warwick. Bring a list of prescriptions you take and your Medicare card. Janet will be offering her services on the second Thursday of each month. 
Cost: No charge. Donations appreciated. Call the Center to register. 

 Friday, July 22: Maintaining a Healthy Heart
10:15-11:30 This presentation will explore the meaning and dimensions of spiritual wellness and will offer ways of enhancing one's spiritual wellness through practical and simple steps. Speaker: Rev. Dr. Verlyn Hemmen is the Chaplain Manager and CPE Supervisor at United Hospital in St. Paul. He has served three parishes over a 20-year time span. He began working at United Hospital in 2000 and offered the first unit of CPE there during the summer of 2000. Healthy snacks will be served. Win one free month of exercise at the center! Register at the front desk by July 18.

 Tuesday, July 19: Lady of the Lake on Lake Minnetonka boat Trip
11:30-3:30 Think summer sunshine and sign up for our 2011 boat trip on the “Lady of the Lake” on Lake Minnetonka. Our tour will be the “History of the Big Island”. Along the route we will be treated to a view of beautiful scenery and Minnetonka mansions. We will enjoy a boxed lunch of turkey, ham or roast beef on a croissant, pasta salad, fruit, and cookie. Beverage choices will be ice tea, lemonade, or coffee. 
Fee: $34 Registration ends July 12.

 Wednesday, July 27: Annual Ice Cream Social and Dance 
1:00-3:00 Come see what all the fun is about! Join us at our Weekly Wednesday Dance, with the Golden Tones Big Band and enjoy a tasty ice cream sundae during intermission!
Fee: $4 for admission to the dance, treats are free.
